To be exempt from taking pre-licensing courses:

  • Must have taken FI 331
  • Must have taken at least one additional real estate course WITHIN the last six months

Sign up with the Alabama Real Estate Commission to receive your AREC ID

Fill out the Grade Release Form

Once these 3 things have been completed:

Please send Dr. Alan Tidwell an email ( oatidwell@ua.edu ) message that includes (1) your AREC ID, (2) the start date of the semester you took FI 331 Principles of RE.,  (3) the name of and semester of your other real estate course you would like to include for credit, and (3) the completed attached forms and he will sign you up with the state and give further instructions to sign up for the exam itself. 

CRAM/Exam Prep Courses:

It is highly advised for you to take a salesperson exam prep course, and then take the license exam shortly after that class.  The reason for a cram course is that around 40 of the 140 questions pertain to Alabama License Law. The first-time pass rate is lower than you'd expect, so please carefully prepare for the test.
